Treat RAW as a master file

A camera RAW file preserves options for later rendering, so do not use a conversion request as a reason to replace or discard it. Create a separate delivery JPG and keep the original in your image archive.

Choose the workflow for the risk

For a compatible camera file, a browser-based converter can keep processing on the device. For a client job, unusual camera model or colour-critical work, use the established desktop RAW software that the project requires.

A safe workflow is not defined by a marketing label; it is defined by clear control of originals, exports and delivery copies.

Export only what the recipient needs

A small review JPG, full-resolution print JPG and editable project file are different deliverables. Match the export to the recipient rather than sending a camera original when a preview is enough.

Compress the JPG only after visual review if the delivery channel has a size limit.
