How to Open PSD Files Without Photoshop

Start with a safe copy

We know how annoying it is to receive a PSD when you only need to inspect an image or share a quick preview. Keep the original PSD untouched and work from a duplicate whenever possible.

A browser preview depends on the file and decoder available on that device. If a PSD cannot be opened in the browser, use a desktop graphics application that can read PSD files rather than renaming the file extension.

• Export a JPG or PNG copy for review and sharing
• Check the exported copy visually before sending it

Choose the right preview format

JPG is useful for photographs and simple review copies. PNG is better when the exported design needs crisp text, line art or transparent areas. Neither format retains editable PSD layers.

Avoid damaging the working file

If the goal is collaboration, label the export clearly, such as project-preview.jpg, and keep the PSD in the project folder.
